Booking system: a ready-made tool or a custom one

When a ready-made booking tool is enough and when a custom system pays off. Questions to ask before you decide.

If customers book appointments by phone or in messages, an online booking system saves time and removes mistakes. The question is whether to use a ready-made tool or have one built to measure.

When a ready-made tool is enough

A ready-made tool works when your process is simple: one place, one type of service, standard opening hours. It is quick to start and cheap per month. Check that it can send confirmations and that you can change available times yourself.

When a custom system pays off

  • You have several branches, rooms or specialists with different availability.
  • Prices or length depend on the service, the time or the customer.
  • The booking must connect to your own system, such as an e-shop or a client database.
  • You want the booking to look and behave exactly like the rest of your site.

Questions to ask

  • Who owns the customer data?
  • Can the system connect to my other tools?
  • What does it cost per month as I grow?
  • What happens if the provider changes its terms?

If your process is more specific than a ready-made tool allows, see custom booking systems or write to me about your case.
