How to choose a web developer: 7 questions before you order
By Omnicode•October 9, 2026

What to ask before you order a website: scope, design, ownership, revisions, maintenance and references.
Choosing who builds your website is easier when you know what to ask. These seven questions make quotes comparable and prevent surprises later.
The seven questions
- What is included in the price? Pages, features, languages, hosting and revisions.
- Who provides design and copy? If it is you, plan the time; if it is the developer, check the price.
- Who owns the domain, the code and the content? Agree it in writing.
- How many revision rounds are included? And what does an extra change cost?
- Who maintains the site after launch? Updates and security do not look after themselves.
- Can I edit the content myself? A content system saves you from paying for every small change.
- What can I see that was built before? Ask for examples and what exactly the developer did.
Why these questions
Most problems with websites do not come from the code. They come from unclear scope, missing materials and nobody owning maintenance. A developer who answers these clearly is usually easier to work with.
